Activities of the Knights of Columbus Auburn University Council
Seminarian Support — The council currently provides stipends to three seminarians training for the priesthood to help with their living expenses. All four seminarians are current or former members of St. Michael the Archangel parish.
Pancake Brunches — The council hosts a Pancake Brunch after the 10:30 AM Mass once each month. The brunches help parishioners to get to know other members of the St. Michael's family. Proceeds from the brunches are dedicated to building a fund to purchase, along with matching funds from the Knights of Columbus national organization, a new ultrasound machine for the Women's Hope Clinic in Opelika.
Life Programs — In addition to supporting Women's Hope the council supports other right-to-life programs including Baby Steps and the Lee County Life chain.
Intellectual Disabilities Campaign — The Intellectual Disabilities Campaign (also known as the Tootsie Roll drive) raises funds to support programs for individuals with intellectual disabilities. 80% of the funds collected by the Auburn University Council go to the Lee County Special Olympics program and 20% support a statewide grant program.
Other Programs — The council supports various initiatives throughout the years including providing an honor guard for the annual Eucharistic Procession on the campus of Auburn University, sponsoring the Silver Rose devotion dedicate to Our Lady of Guadalupe, and responding to requests for man-hours or financial assistance from the community as they arise.
Fund Raising Activities — To support its charitable mission, the council conducts a number of fund raising activities. In addition to hosting Pancake Brunches and conducting the Intellectual Disabilities Campaign describes above, fundraising activities include selling Christmas cards with a religious message, sponsoring the annual Valentine's Dinner Dance, and selling programs and radios at Auburn University football games.
