Altar Servers |
|
|
All boys and girls who have received
their First Holy Communion and are in the fifth grade or older are welcome
to serve at the altar during the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the
Mass. Servers will be assigned to assist the during the Saturday night and
Sunday Masses. |

Altar Care Providers

|
The ministry of altar care consists of cleaning and upkeep of altar linens
and candles. Usually participants agree to serve one month at a time. This
ministry can be performed at the volunteer's convenience; there is no set
schedule. |

Christian Women's Infant Loss and Miscarriage
Support Group |

This is a group of women that get together on an as-needed basis to lend
love and support to those who lost a baby due to miscarriage (no matter
how far along), infant loss, or SIDS. We also sponsor the Hope & Healing
Service, usually held in December, to remember our babies gone to heaven
too early. Women need not be Catholic to attend the meeting or the Service. |

Consolation Ministry |

The ministry consists of trained volunteers to minister to the terminally
ill and their families and to families in time of bereavement. The Consolation
Ministry acts as a liason between the parish community and the family. |

We are frequently in need of new lectors to replace those who have moved
away. If you are intererested in becoming part of this holy ministry we
will call upon you when there is a vacancy. Individual instruction will

Music Ministers |
|
|
Parishioners may serve the church through participation in the music ministry
vocally, instrucmentally, or as sound technicians. Choral ensembles and
instrumentalists are a welcome addition to our celebration. Cantors serve
to lead the congregational singing. All levels of experience and ability
are welcome. |

Nursery |

The nursery is open for infants and toddlers up to age three, during the
8:00 AM and 10:30 AM Masses on Sunday. The nursery closes after the 10:30
AM Mass. Children ages 3, 4 and 5 are invited to register for CFF which
meets during the 10:30 AM Mass. We sponsor Parent's Night Out during various
Saturday evenings throughout the year. The nursery is also open for special
Masses throughout the year. |

Parish Family Assistance |

This group was established to reflect Christ's mercy by organizing and providing
assistance in the form of funds, personal support, and professional resources
to parish members in acute need situations by utilizing existing parish
resources and specific purpose fundraising. |

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a charitable organization of Catholic
lay people, which serves the parish and the community. It is open to all
men and women. We maintain a food pantry for those in need, and transients.

Burse Club
|
|
|
The Burse Club Fund was founded by the late Archbishop T.J. Toolen in 1953
to educate students for the priesthood. It is sponsored by the Archdiocesan
Council of Catholic Women, but membership is open to everyone. Dues are
one dollar a month and may be paid monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or
annually. NO MEETINGS! The benefits are: daily remembrance in the prayers
of each priest assisted by this fund; daily remembrance in a special Mass
offered for member of the burse club, living or deceased, opportunity to
win the monthy "Dividend" of $100.00. Membership dues are paid
to the Director at St. Michael's. |

Haiti Committee |

Notre Dame du Mont Carmel (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel) is our sister parish.
The main church and rectory are in Cabaret, Haiti with five outlying chapels
in the villages of St. Gerard, Bellanger, Bercy, Laffiteau and Terre Salee.
This ministry, started in 2002, involves sending supplies to Haiti, fundraising,
publicity, and assistance in the areas of education, church and rectory
repair and upkeep, and healthcare.  |

Natural Family Planning |

Christian marriage is a permanent relationship created by God, of love and
service and, most importantly, an established Sacrament of the Roman Catholic
Church. In this belief, the Church has established teachings on love and
marriage, one being that natural Family Planning is the only morally acceptable
method of child spacing. NFP is a proven, scientific method of regulating
birth that has a marriage enhancing effect. Classes taught several times
a year.

The purpose of St. Michael's Parish concil, an at-large representative body,
is to act in an advisory capacity. Its duties are:
*To Accept the responsibility to implement the goal statements of the Parish.
*To Act as the authentic voice of the parish by encouraging communication
among all parishioners.
*To Assist the pastor and pastoral team in administrative matters.
*To Witness and exemplify the message and image of our Lord to all people
within the Parish and throughout the community.
*To Discern the needs (spiritual and material) of the Parish and suggest
the appropriate actions and resources to fill these needs.

Respect Life |
|
|
A branch of the Deanery Respect Life committee and a standing committee
of the Parish, it was established to deal with pro-life, family life and
social justice issues. The group is responsible for keeping abreast of pro-life
news and events going on within the Church, the State and the comminity,
and coordinating any action that might needed, such as helping a local unwed
mom. The group works closely with certain state and local pro-life groups
such as Catholic Social Service, Alabama Pro-Life Coalition and Sav-A-Life.

St. Cecilia Schola Cantorum |

This group was founded in 2001 with a particular emphasis on using chant
and ployphony as an integral part of modern liturgy. It rehearses weekly
and assists at liturgy twice monthly.

St. Vincent de Paul |

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a charitable organization of Catholic
lay people, which serves the parish and the community. It is open to
all men and women. Among the ways we help the community are: providing
health insurance for needy children through the Alabama Child Care Foundation,
funds for clothing to the Clothe-A-Child program, and help to pregnant
teens.
We maintain a food pantry for transients and others in need, distribute
food baskets at Thanksgiving and Easter and sponsor a mobile food pantry
aimed at helping the Hispanics in the area. Non-perishable
food is collected in the basket in the church vestibule. We are supported
solely through donations and memorial gifts. The Society meets
the first Sunday of each month from September to June, 9 - 10 AM. New members
are welcome.
