Parish Lay Ministries
and Organizations
           
Altar Servers
    All boys and girls who have received their First Holy Communion and are in the fifth grade or older are welcome to serve at the altar during the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Servers will be assigned to assist the during the Saturday night and Sunday Masses. Contact:

Altar Care Providers
   
The ministry of altar care consists of cleaning and upkeep of altar linens and candles. Usually participants agree to serve one month at a time. This ministry can be performed at the volunteer's convenience; there is no set schedule.

Christian Women's Infant Loss and Miscarriage Support Group
   
This is a group of women that get together on an as-needed basis to lend love and support to those who lost a baby due to miscarriage (no matter how far along), infant loss, or SIDS. We also sponsor the Hope & Healing Service, usually held in December, to remember our babies gone to heaven too early. Women need not be Catholic to attend the meeting or the Service.

Consolation Ministry
   
The ministry consists of trained volunteers to minister to the terminally ill and their families and to families in time of bereavement. The Consolation Ministry acts as a liason between the parish community and the family.

Lectors
   
We are frequently in need of new lectors to replace those who have moved away. If you are intererested in becoming part of this holy ministry we will call upon you when there is a vacancy. Individual instruction will be provided.

Music Ministers
   
Parishioners may serve the church through participation in the music ministry vocally, instrucmentally, or as sound technicians. Choral ensembles and instrumentalists are a welcome addition to our celebration. Cantors serve to lead the congregational singing. All levels of experience and ability are welcome.

Nursery
   
The nursery is open for infants and toddlers up to age three, during the 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM Masses on Sunday. The nursery closes after the 10:30 AM Mass. Children ages 3, 4 and 5 are invited to register for CFF which meets during the 10:30 AM Mass. We sponsor Parent's Night Out during various Saturday evenings throughout the year. The nursery is also open for special Masses throughout the year.

Parish Family Assistance
   
This group was established to reflect Christ's mercy by organizing and providing assistance in the form of funds, personal support, and professional resources to parish members in acute need situations by utilizing existing parish resources and specific purpose fundraising.

St. Vincent de Paul
   
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a charitable organization of Catholic lay people, which serves the parish and the community. It is open to all men and women. We maintain a food pantry for those in need, and transients. We are supported solely through donations and memorial gifts.

Ushers
   
The Ushers are a group of individuals who welcome and assist parishioners, especially newcomers, before and after each liturgy and at other church functions.

Bereavement Group
    Parish volunteer organization that prepares a luncheon after a funeral, upon request. Membership is open to all parishioners. Contact:

Burse Club
   
The Burse Club Fund was founded by the late Archbishop T.J. Toolen in 1953 to educate students for the priesthood. It is sponsored by the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women, but membership is open to everyone. Dues are one dollar a month and may be paid monthly, quarterly, semi-annually or annually. NO MEETINGS! The benefits are: daily remembrance in the prayers of each priest assisted by this fund; daily remembrance in a special Mass offered for member of the burse club, living or deceased, opportunity to win the monthy "Dividend" of $100.00. Membership dues are paid to the Director at St. Michael's.

Children's Schola
   
This group exists to educate the children of St. Michael's in the rudiments of music reading and singing, and to foster in them an appreciation for beauty, order, and the ancestral music of the Church. It assists in liturgy on a seasonal basis.

CSO (Catholic Student Organization)
   
All Catholic college students are invited to participate in the Catholic Student Organization (CSO). The group seeks to encourage spiritual growth, social, liturgy, community relations, service and hospitality. A link to the CSO website is located at the top of this Web Page.

CWA (Catholic Women's Association)
   
Open to all women of the parish, this group seeks to create a vehicle to provide Christian service to both St. Michael's Parish and the Auburn community.

Executive Committee
   
The committee members consists of the Pastor, Parish Council President, Parish Council President Elect and Parish Council Secretary who meet monthly to set the agenda for the upcoming Parish Council meeting.

The Finance Committee is an advisory group to the Pastor and Parish Concil. This group is responsible for the financial status of the Parish.

Gift Store
   
The store is located in the lobby of the Parish Center and in the room next to the Chapel. The store corries Catholic books and gifts for all occasions including rosaries, medals, crucifixes, fonts, scapulars, holy cards, baptismal gifts, stutues, general items and much more.

Haiti
Committee
   

Notre Dame du Mont Carmel (Our Lady of Mt. Carmel) is our sister parish. The main church and rectory are in Cabaret, Haiti with five outlying chapels in the villages of St. Gerard, Bellanger, Bercy, Laffiteau and Terre Salee. This ministry, started in 2002, involves sending supplies to Haiti, fundraising, publicity, and assistance in the areas of education, church and rectory repair and upkeep, and healthcare. Knights of Columbus
   
This international organization for Catholic men is geared toward offering a place for camaraderie and fellowship in an environment of shared faith and common commitment to service.

Natural Family Planning
   
Christian marriage is a permanent relationship created by God, of love and service and, most importantly, an established Sacrament of the Roman Catholic Church. In this belief, the Church has established teachings on love and marriage, one being that natural Family Planning is the only morally acceptable method of child spacing. NFP is a proven, scientific method of regulating birth that has a marriage enhancing effect. Classes taught several times a year.

Pan Y Vino
   
Pan Y Vino is a wonderful way for college students to learn more about the Catholic faith and strengthen their relationship with Christ. This group does two retreats a year.

Parish Council
   
The purpose of St. Michael's Parish concil, an at-large representative body, is to act in an advisory capacity. Its duties are:
*To Accept the responsibility to implement the goal statements of the Parish.
*To Act as the authentic voice of the parish by encouraging communication among all parishioners.
*To Assist the pastor and pastoral team in administrative matters.
*To Witness and exemplify the message and image of our Lord to all people within the Parish and throughout the community.
*To Discern the needs (spiritual and material) of the Parish and suggest the appropriate actions and resources to fill these needs.

Prime Timers
   
St. Michael's Senior Group provides the opportunity for older men and women to periodically get together for fun and fellowship. Call the contact person for information about upcoming events.

Respect Life
   
A branch of the Deanery Respect Life committee and a standing committee of the Parish, it was established to deal with pro-life, family life and social justice issues. The group is responsible for keeping abreast of pro-life news and events going on within the Church, the State and the comminity, and coordinating any action that might needed, such as helping a local unwed mom. The group works closely with certain state and local pro-life groups such as Catholic Social Service, Alabama Pro-Life Coalition and Sav-A-Life.

St. Cecilia Schola Cantorum
   
This group was founded in 2001 with a particular emphasis on using chant and ployphony as an integral part of modern liturgy. It rehearses weekly and assists at liturgy twice monthly.

St. Vincent de Paul
   
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a charitable organization of Catholic lay people, which serves the parish and the community. It is open to all men and women. Among the ways we help the community are: providing health insurance for needy children through the Alabama Child Care Foundation, funds for clothing to the Clothe-A-Child program, and help to pregnant teens. We maintain a food pantry for transients and others in need, distribute food baskets at Thanksgiving and Easter and sponsor a mobile food pantry aimed at helping the Hispanics in the area. Non-perishable food is collected in the basket in the church vestibule. We are supported solely through donations and memorial gifts. The Society meets the first Sunday of each month from September to June, 9 - 10 AM. New members are welcome.
